
Steven Chappell is a badminton player and fully qualified coach with both BADMINTON England and BADMINTON Scotland.
As a junior Steven was ranked No 3 in Scotland in boys' singles and also got a bronze medal at the Austrian Junior Nationals while living over there.
In 1999 he went to study and train at Loughborough University, while there he trained under the guidance of the Great Britain National Badminton Coach Andy Wood and competed at county level for Leicestershire.
After graduating he moved to Denmark to train full time at the National Badminton Academy under the guidance former Danish National Coach U22 Michael Kjeldsen and current Danish National Coach Lars Uhre. There he trained with some of the best players in the world including world No 3 ranked ladies' singles player Pi Hongjan and 2009 All England Mixed doubles Semi Finalist Anastasia Vikulova.
Two years later he moved back to England to work full time while still competing on the English Badminton Circuit and playing county badminton for Cumbria.
Steven then did his necessary coaching qualifications and was approached by BADMINTON England to coach a talented junior player called Lauren Smith. Within two years Lauren was being selected to represent England at junior level and is currently England U19 mixed doubles National Champion. In April 2009 she reperesented England at the European Junior Championship winning two bronze medals.
Steven is currently coaching the following junior players:
•Jacob Reynolds, Rachel McLeod, Mathew Dugiud, Stuart Holley, Cameron Piper, Sam Newall, David Blacklaw and Scott Wadel
Jacob Reynold is currently a member of the Scotland U 13 National Squad, while Mathew and Stuart are the reigning Boy's Doubles Champions at U11.
