The NE U13 was this weekend and once again we had a good turn out from the club. In the boy's singles we had Mathew Duguid in the Final against Alex Dunne, after a close first end Alex wont the second end quite convincingly. In the boys' doubles we had both M Duguid/ S Holley and S Connell/J Murray in the semi finals both pairs going down in two sets. Onwards to the U13 Nationals next weekend!!
There was a great result for Mathew Duguid at the weekend in Motherwell where he took first place at the SSBU 1998 age group singles. Mathew beat both Glen Lewington and Jack Riddell into first place in the event. Fellow all star members scott waddell, stephen connell, sam muir and david blacklaw finished 8th, 9th, 12th and 14th respectively.

Catriona Holley wins NE Primary Schools Singles
Well done to Catriona Holley who at the weekend won the NE Primary Schools singles. In the final she beat Eilidh Mitchell, also an All Star member, 21-16. The two of them then paired up in the girls doubles narrowly losing out in the final 21-20! Well done girls!!
Glasgow School of Sport U10 & U13
Once again All Star BC had a good turnout in this tournament. Mathew Duguid again reached the final before coming up against old foe Alex Dunn, this time Alex had the upperhand winning 21-18, 21-11. Scott Waddell progressed to the final of the consolation event winning in two tight sets.
In the boys doubles M Duguid/S Holley made their way to the final before losing to 21-11, 21-15.
In the U10 event Josh McKay showed great fightback skills to reach the final against his regular doubles partner Adam Pringle. Despite some great rallys Josh went down 21-12 in the final. Then in the doubles the two teamed up together and won the event quite comfortably with their biggest challenge coming against Michael Farnwood and Colin Taylor which they won 21-16.
In the U13 singles events All Star BC had a good turnout with Becky Flaherty making it into the semi finals before going down to Eleanor O Donnell 21-10, 21-13. In the boys event Mathew Duguid beat fellow All Star member 21-16, 21-13 in a hard fought semi final. Mathew then went down in the final against A Dunne 21-13, 21-15. In the boys doubles Mathew Duguid and Stuart Holley justified their seeding making it all the way to the final before going down 21-13, 21-10.
At this years Midlothian U11 in Penicuik, All Star BC had 3 members competing. In the boy's singles James Hinchcliffe and Josh Mckay competed, with James winning 3 out of his group games and entering the consolation cup, in which James reached the semi finals before going down to eventual winner Euan Laing. Josh won all his group matches putting him in the quarter finals against C Grimley. Played rallied well and managed an excellent 16 points against Christopher.
In the ladies singles Catriona Holley Catriona won through her group before losing to fellow north east player Eilidh Mitchell. In the boys doubles Josh temaed up with Adam Pringle reaching the semi finals before going down to the Grimley twins. In the girls event Catriona teamed up with fellow stonehaven based player Maria Leith and did fantastically well to reach the final before being edged out in the final 21-16.
Mark Leith wins SSBU U14 Age Group Singles
Well done to Mark Leith who won last weeks U14 SSBu Age Group Singles at ravenscraig. Mark seeded no.1 won pool A without dropping a set. A special mention to Mathew Duguid also who produced some great performances, including beating no.2 seed Alex Dunn to finish 3rd in pool A!!
November Player of the Month - Mathew Duguid
Well done to Mathew duguid who had an excellent November. Mathew reached the final of the U13's boy's singles at the East of Scotland then followed this up a few weeks later by finishing second at the SSBU U13's Age Group Singles!!
Reynold's wins the double at the East
Well down to Jacob Reynolds who won the double at this weekends East of Scotland Championships. Jacob produced a number of battling displays in the singles, most notably in the quarter finals defeating his doubles partner 21-19 in the third set. In the final he produced a great performance defeating Calum McMilian 21-16, 21-9 to take the final. In the doubles he teamed up with Robert Clarke. In the final they came up against fellow All Star player Sean Leith and his partner Alistair Gordon. In a close fought match Reynolds and Clarke edged it 17-21, 21-17, 21-19.
Duguid reaches final of East of Scotland
A big congratulations to Mathew Duguid who reached the final of the U13 East of Scotland boy's singles. Mathew had a two fantastic wins against Calum Atterbury and Sameer Amir en route to the final where he lost to no.1 seed Alex Dunn. Mathew and his doubles partner Stuart Holly as fared well, reaching the semi finals before narrowly losing out to the Grimley twins 18-21, 22-20, 21-19 in an extremely tight match.
